Class 2 Dust Cart Driver (Refuse & Recycling Collection)
Location: Thurrock
Salary: £16.84 per hour
Hours: Full-time, [Monday to Friday, early morning starts]
Contract: Ongoing assignment
About the Role
Local authority is seeking a dedicated and responsible Class 2 Dust Cart Driver to join our Refuse & Recycling Service. You’ll play a key role in keeping our borough clean and safe by driving a refuse collection vehicle (RCV) as part of a small, friendly crew.
This is a public-facing, community-focused position, ideal for someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys working outdoors in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class 2 refuse collection vehicle on designated routes.
- Supervise and support loaders as part of the waste and recycling collection crew.
- Undertake routine vehicle checks and report any maintenance issues.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and council waste management policies.
- Provide excellent service to residents and maintain a positive image of the council.
- Assist with loading when required to ensure timely completion of rounds.
Requirements
Valid Class 2 (Category C) driving licence
CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
Previous experience in refuse or recycling collection (desirable but not essential)
Good awareness of health & safety practices
Reliable, punctual, and committed to high service standards
